#15 Assault on the Castle
12 vs. an Army
“How’s our captive doing?” Roland asked one of the samurai at the guard change. “It’s strange. He’s been asleep for the last two days sitting like that.” He glanced back at the meditative state Madara was in. “He hasn’t eaten for the last week, but somehow he’s still breathing, albeit faint.” The samurai bowed to the lieutenant before leaving. Roland approached the protective barrier around Madara. “Hey, ninja.” Madara remained motionless. “That won’t work sir. He hasn’t responded to anything.” Roland eyed the samurai. “If you’ve been talking to him we’ll have another traitor on our hands.” “You mean that sixth squad girl? What happened with her?” Roland sighed as he though of a way to shorten the story as much as possible. “The ninja that infiltrated the city rescued her during interrogation. She left willingly.” The samurai nodded. “I was in the same class as Hamano at the academy.” Madara’s eyes cracked open at the name. “Hamano…”
“Hamano get ready, this is going to be hard as a frontal assault.” Chikametsu and his ten men, along with Hamano stood at the bottom of a cliff, each hidden by their choice of foliage. “Chikametsu, there is a back elevator we could take to surprise them.” He shook his head. “There’s no way we could all fit inside that thing.” “But why don’t we split into two parties and hit tem from both sides?” Chikametsu peeked over the bush he and Hamano hid behind. The narrow canyon was the only way to the maximum security prison, besides the service elevator. “This place is built so there is only one direction for a significant force to attack from, very clever. But we’ll still be attacking from the front, that’s the only way.” “But what if they call for reinforcements? We’ll be trapped from both sides!” Hamano had to quickly silence her voice when she almost screamed at the ninja. “I’ve got it covered. Trust me.”
Chikametsu smiled and turned to look through the bush at the enemy. His fingers moved oddly, dancing across the air with a strict purpose. Some of his men instantly reacted, sprinting forward quickly. Two of them clasped their hands together and one of them snapped its hand off to reveal a chain and hurled the other forward. The thrown man opened his mouth that produced a glowing, four-bladed weapon that spun rapidly, cutting across the top of the prison, eliminating some guards in a gruesome manner. The blue masked man leapt up onto the ceiling only to be surrounded by five guards. He only knelt on the roof and five metal cables rushed out of his head, piercing his enemies. Hamano watched on in shock at the incredible displays. “Are these guys even human?” “Stop gaping and get moving.” Chikametsu rushed forward with Hamano a half pace behind him. “Chikametsu, the gates are reinforced!” A quick whip of his hands caused one of his subordinates, the only one of female appearance, to drop down in front of the doors. She slashed it with her oversized swords before jumping aside to avoid the strong golden horned one who smashed through the weakened door.
“Chikametsu, they have reinforcements!” Hamano screamed the information as the many samurai ran up the narrow gorge to assist their companions. The ninja brought his hands together and two of the puppets stood shoulder to shoulder and another jumped on top making a pyramid. “Hamano, don’t panic. I said I had this covered. Sanbou Kyuukai.” (Three Buddhist Treasures Vacuum Destruction) the air began spiraling in the center of the pyramid before suddenly exploding with energy. The atmosphere seem to swell as it was mercilessly sucked into the space between the three men. Even shrubbery and human lives were lost in the crushing pressure that remained in place. Chikametsu smiled at Hamano who seemed rather displeased. “So many have died already. Is your friend really worth all of this?” Chikametsu sighed. “You’re no longer part of this country you shouldn’t care about these samurai. Steel yourself for the coming brutalities. There will be many, like right now.”
#16 Brutalities of War
Indecision I
“Bring me one of the dead guards.” Hamano’s eyes widened. “I-I can’t do that! W-Why?” “Do it quick! I have to hold this position to keep them at bay.” Hamano stood stagnant in indecision. “Get your men to do it.” “I can’t!” Hamano glanced around at all of them that had collapsed in their positions without wounds. “Their all just puppets I control! I need your help!” Hamano’s eyes began welling up as she glanced around recognizing, for the first time, how each one was killed. One had a stab wound to his neck, another was slashed across his chest lying face first in his own entrails. Terrifying.
“Dammit!” Chikametsu broke his hand sign and rushed over to one of the dead samurai. The three puppets became lifeless and their technique silenced. The samurai that had taken refuge seized the opportunity rushing the three puppets. The ninja angrily moved on to another when he found that its hand was chopped off. Upon finding an intact body Chikametsu worked quickly, sitting the samurai up against the fortress wall. He pulled out three needles from his pouch and forced the samurai to make the hand seal he had made earlier. He positioned the needles carefully over his skin before delicately ramming them into his skin. He repeated this sequence with lightning fast dexterity, determined not to be overtaken by the swath of advancers. When the final one was thrust through and the corpse’s hands inseparable Chikametsu placed his hands around the samurai’s. Thin blue lines of energy seemed to spawn from his fingertips reconnecting to the three puppets that roared back to life with their destructive technique, barely avoiding the destruction the close samurai would have caused.
Chikametsu’s puppets sprang to life when the chore was completed. “Hamano, We’re going.” The words offered no chance for rebuttal, but Hamano neither admitted to it nor refused it, simply sitting there in indecision. “I can’t even believe I brought you.” One of his puppets scooped the shocked samurai into its arms before heading inside with its master. Two guards were waiting around the corner only to be cleft in twain by the female puppets huge swords. Hamano screamed as the two bodies fell, managing to wriggle her way out of the puppet’s clutches. “Stop this!” Hamano grabbed her sword threateningly staring dead at Chikametsu through the watery lens’ of her tears. Chikametsu ignored the samurai blasting another attacker through the wall with the strong puppet. “Joumei, Hamon.” (Excommunicate, Anathema) she swiped her sword in a circle, sending projectiles at all of the puppets and their master. One of the puppets managed to intercept the one meant for Chikametsu. In its hand, where it had stopped the attack was only a playing card, the ace of clubs. The edges of the card melted into the hand of the puppet leaving only the spade etched into its hand. Each of the puppets had their own card engraved onto their various parts. “Excommunicate!” A translucent, yellow sphere appeared around Hamano expanding through all solid object except those engraved by her cards.
Each puppet flew back through the walls of the base and into the neighboring cliffs. Chikametsu remained behind as the only one unmarked. ‘I can’t believe this. She’s so shocked she can’t even think straight.’ Chikametsu pulled out eight kunai laced between his fingers. ‘With my puppetry I’ll be able to subdue her without hitting vital spots.’ He flung the knives at his opponent who only showed a deck of cards in her hand for protection. She scattered the deck into the air between the kunai and herself. The kunai couldn’t help but hit the cloud of paper, even with Chikametsu as their controller. The kunai that hit the cards did not cut through them, but instead the cards bent to the knives and engraved their symbol onto the metal. “Excommunicate!” An equal force as Chikametsu’s puppetry pushed against the knives holding them in mid air. However, one kunai managed to weave its way through the scattered cards before blindly stricking at Hamano.
“So…” Hamano looked at the kunai plunged deep into her left arm. “…even my life is worthless now?” Still, without the compelling of her movements, the kunai resisted Chikametsu’s puppetry with equal force.
